The Morning Call published its first edition with the help of Samuel S. Woolever on 26 May 1863 as the Critic Saturday evening newspaper, which was distributed weekly. Later, it moved operations to Sunday weekly and afterwards to daily newspaper in 1887 under the name Daily Morning Critic. In 1894, the newspaper was sold to a group of partners by the originator and was renamed The Morning Call.
