Description1649 Korean musketry volley formation -.jpg
English: This plate, titled "Diagram of Bird Gun (musket) Volley Fire" (鳥銃輪放圖), is the clearest extant diagram yet discovered of the Qi Jiguang– inspired musketry volley technique. It is a snapshot of a team (隊) of ten musketeers and their team leader (隊長) halfway through a volley sequence. The top of the diagram faces the front. The musketeers stand in two lines, their team leader standing between them. The two circles mark the location where the men are in the firing column. The men have left their original position, marched to the front, and are firing at the enemy. When the team leader gives a signal, they will return to their places in line to reload, at which point the musketeers behind them will march to the fore and fire. The sequence can continue indefinitely. From Pyŏnghak chinam 兵學指南, vol. 3, p. 14 (first published 1649).
