Description"Thank You" Event for 9th District Police -2 (28239986522).jpg
As they left for their shifts, 9th District residents were waiting with support signs, coffee, doughnuts, cookies, tea, and for the desk staff who couldn't come outside, there was pizza.
It's been a rough year for them. Hell, it's been a rough decade. Their numbers are down by a third from 2008, and more are retiring every day.
And why not? There's no respect from the public or politicians. And they're expected to be marriage counselors, social workers, DCFS caseworkers, and on top of that, they're supposed to look into a crystal ball and know whether the gun with the orange-painted tip that 15-year-old is pointing at them is real or a toy.
And then there are the Monday morning quarterbacks, who know exactly what should have been done in every situation, but have never been through one day of CAPS training, let alone police academy.
