Emily Thorne (born Amanda Clarke) is a fictional character and the protagonist of the ABC television series Revenge. She is portrayed by Emily VanCamp.[1]
Backstory
Amanda Clarke was the daughter of the Clarke family, living in the Hamptons in 1992. Her father, David, who worked as a hedge fund manager at Grayson Global, was having an affair with his boss Conrad Grayson's wife, Victoria, who was prepared to divorce Conrad to be with him. During this time, Conrad laundered money to a group of terrorists to help bring down Flight 197, and manipulated the evidence to point to David Clarke. The FBI stormed David's house and arrested him for treason, while Amanda was taken into foster care for at least eight years, and she never saw her father again. She then spent two years at Alanwood Juvenile Detention Center, until she was released to Nolan Ross, a friend of her father's, who informed her of the truth and gave her a wooden box dubbed the "Infinity Box", with a double infinity sign carved onto the top along with 49% shares of stock in Nolan's technology company, NolCorp, which belonged to her father. The box was filled with numerous photographs of her, her father, her childhood friend Jack, and her childhood dog Sammy (now in Jack's care), journals, newspaper articles, notes and mementos of her father, and had a secret lockbox containing a photograph of the people in Grayson Global. Her father had pleaded with her in his journals not to confront the true culprits behind Flight 197 but she refused to follow his advice. She spends several years doing research on the several members of the conspiracy and creating a elaborate fake back-story by changing her name to the one of her former cellmate.
Personality
Due to her time in the foster care system and juveline detention, Emily possesses a deep misstrust in people and has trouble creating meaningful connections. She usually appears calm and cold while dealing with difficult circumstances but as the series progresses, she begins to portray cracks in her demeanor and reacts more emotionally to situations. It is implied in "Infamy" that she might be pyromanic.
Skills
Like her father, she is incredibly intelligent and is capable of resolving complicated situations with great cleverness. She also received training in martial arts and speaks fluent Japanese.
Relationships
Charlotte Grayson- Charlotte is Emily's younger half-sister. This was a big revelation to Emily who had no idea. Emily chose to ultimately protect Charlotte from her revenge scheme on all the Graysons. Charlotte is the only Grayson who never did anything horrible for Emily to go after her. Charlotte is also the only Grayson who doesn't know what really happened to her father, David Clarke. After Emily finds out Charlotte is her sister, she tries to avoid all possible plans that would hurt Charlotte. Emily wishes to protect Charlotte and be there for her, without revealing her true identity and her revenge scheme. Charlotte had a hard time dealing with all the lies and betrayal in her family and began drinking as well as stealing anti-depressants. Emily notices Charlotte taking pills at her engagement party and looks saddened/disappointed that Charlotte would resort to such measures. However, Emily wasn't able to speak to her before Victoria showed up, and Charlotte not wanting to deal with Victoria, walked away ("Chaos"). Charlotte goes over to Emily's house and they talk about Charlotte's real father. Emily attempts to console Charlotte on the swing by telling Charlotte a story Emily remembers from her childhood about David building it, trying to convince Charlotte David Clarke may not have been all bad, but still hides her true identity and says Amanda told her that story when she came over one time. They end their conversation with Emily cuddling with Charlotte on the swing that their father built ("Scandal"). Emily told Nolan she was worried about Charlotte, when she went to Charlotte's room, Emily sees that Charlotte has many articles, newspapers, pictures, and records of David Clarke spread all over her bed. Emily asks what all of it is, Charlotte says " This is my version of father-daughter time." Charlotte unwittingly gave Emily evidence of the person who murdered their father, with a picture Victoria had hidden in the lining of her jewlerey box. Without this picture Emily would have never of found out who murdered their father or figured out that David Clarke has another journal, that Nolan had possession of, which she eventually recovered. Despite Emily wishing to help Charlotte, she does not feel the need to tell Charlotte that she is the real Amanda Clarke. Since Emily isn't good at connecting with people, due to her childhood, she sometimes looks awkward trying to comfort Charlotte, as she doesn't know what to say or do to make her feel better.
Nolan Ross- Nolan aids Emily in her quest for revenge more or less loyally since he still feels indebted to her father. At first he helps her actively, but after a close encounter with the Graysons' bodyguard Frank, he became a "consultant" instead. She acknowledges that he is helpful, though she is sometimes annoyed by his quirkiness in the early episodes. While Nolan still is very loyal to Emily, it has been made clear more than once than his loyalty to her father comes first. Nolan and Emily have a brother-sister relationship, as they both looked at David as a father figure.
Daniel Grayson- Emily is Daniel's former fiancée, breaking of the engagement in the final episode of the first season. Daniel chose to keep the secret of what his family did to David Clarke instead of revealing it to the reporter who was conducting his interview. Emily therefore, claims that she will not hold back on Daniel, since he chose his side.
Overview
This section's plot summary may be too long or excessively detailed. (January 2012) |
The "Pilot" begins by showing Emily's future "Fire and Ice" engagement party, taking place on Labor Day Weekend. It is the party for her engagement to Daniel Grayson, the son of Conrad and Victoria Grayson. All seems to be going well when a dead body assumed to be Daniel's is discovered on the beach by Charlotte, his sister.
Five months prior, Emily visits her old beach house, which is being rented out for the summer by the owners. Later on in the episode, Emily reminisces on the beach about her father, when she is interrupted by Lydia Davis, her father's former secretary who had testified against him, and the current owner of Emily's former home. Emily follows Lydia to the South Fork Inn, where she takes photographs of her having an affair with Conrad, then poses as a maid to poison Conrad's soup with a small amount of an unknown clear liquid. This causes him to suffer a heart attack and end up in the hospital, though he is released quickly enough so that he may attend his wife's Memorial Day party. Emily is introduced by her (apparent) friend Ashley Davenport to Victoria and Conrad, and then, recognizing Lydia from before, inadvertently reveals their affair. Victoria has Lydia removed from her party and announces her departure from The Hamptons. During this time, Emily meets Daniel Grayson, Victoria's son, and they bond over wine. When Emily returns home later that night, Nolan Ross appears, having recognized her from the party. Nolan realizes almost immediately why she is there, and offers to assist her, though she rejects and threatens him if he tries to interfere with her plans.
In "Trust", Emily gets to work on her next target, Bill Harmon, a wealthy Wall Street hedge fund manager and trusted ex-family friend who testified against David Clarke. Emily meets him again and expresses interest in investing with him. As she leaves, she discovers that her old beach house was sold to Nolan. Nolan explains to her that he outbid Victoria, and signs the house over to Emily as a birthday gift for "Amanda". He also explains that he wants to help her because David Clarke helped him get to where he is today. Emily later meets with Bill Harmon to discuss investments, and is refused from seeing a list of his clients. Bill sees her embracing Nolan in the city, and she explains that she trusts Nolan enough to invest with him. In a live broadcast, Nolan announces that he is investing not in AllCom Cellular, Harmon's company, but with Unitech, AllCom's main competitor instead. This causes a major blow to AllCom's stocks. Emily infiltrates the company headquarters and prints out a list of Harmon's clients, then poses as his administrator while she informs them of the company's losses. Later on, at a welcoming party for her, Emily and Daniel share their first kiss.
In "Betrayal", Emily accepts Nolan as her only confidante in her plans as she sets her sights on federal prosecutor Tom Kingsly, now a state senator, who wrongfully convicted her father. He knows her personally as he supported her campaign. She buys the apartment building where Kingsly's former mistress lives, and has security cameras installed. Emily intimidates Kingsly by sending him emails and the footage at a fundraiser for him, and the presence of his mistress causes him to announce that he is retiring from public life. It is later revealed that Emily released the sex tape to the press, in order to "destroy his life".
In "Duplicity", Emily sees Victoria's Mothers and Daughters party benefitting children with mental illness as a chance to seek revenge on Dr. Michelle Banks, the court-appointed therapist who institutionalized her and barred her from ever seeing her father again. Prior to the party, Emily breaks into Banks' office and steals her computer, as well as the disk for the presentation, and overwrites the disk using several of Banks' recorded private sessions with her patients, including both Emily and Victoria, the latter's tape revealing to Charlotte she wished she was never born. Victoria later finda out that she has been abducted. Emily locks her in a warehouse owned by Grayson Global to implicate Victoria, and then sends an anonymous tip to police, who find and free her.
In "Guilt", Emily takes a break from taking down people, while Nolan places a whale-shaped camera in her house. Lydia returns, demanding her house back. As a peace offering to Lydia, Emily ships several of her remaining items to her apartment in the city, which includes a signed book authored by Dr. Banks, and the whale-shaped camera, as well as a file folder of print articles related to Harmon, Kingsly and especially Banks, to implicate Lydia (because Emily had left out Lydia's session tapes in the Mothers and Daughters incident, she saw this as leverage to pin all of her crimes on Lydia). Nolan finds that the camera is at Lydia's house, where he records her threatening to expose the truth about David Clarke at a benefit for victims of terrorism, and then calling catering companies asking about a New Year's Eve party in 2003, as she finds a photograph showing Emily working as a waitress. Emily asks Nolan to remove her name from Consmick Catering's employee database and to obtain the picture. This party is elaborated on the episode "Legacy". At the party, Victoria is called by her head of security, Frank Stevens, who informs her that Lydia is planning to expose the conspiracy at the benefit. Victoria manages to cause Lydia to give a different speech, though directly after, Victoria explains that she lied about forgiving her. Lydia returns home to find Frank, who is convinced that Lydia was behind Emily's crimes, and attempts to kill her. The two fight, which ends with Lydia falling from the rooftop. After this, and after Nolan retrieves the items, he calls Emily frantically after discovering Frank tried to kill Lydia, though Emily does not receive his message as she returns home to make love with Daniel.
In "Intrigue", Emily awakens and finds Nolan outside her house, who shows her the footage of Lydia and Frank, and gives her the items she asked him to retrieve. Emily then sends the footage to Conrad and Victoria, who fire Frank. Frank, however, attempts to regain favor with the Graysons by bribing Lydia's doorman into showing him security camera footage, where he discovers Nolan outside her door. At the Fourth of July party later on, he threatens Nolan with a gun as he demands to know who he's working for. Frank is witness to a conversation between Nolan and Emily. Meanwhile, Jack professes his feelings for Emily; although she is in love with him and desperately wants to reciprocate the feeling, she is forced to turn him down.
In "Charade", Emily visits Nolan to find that he has hired a bodyguard, "Big Ed". After finding out that Lydia is still comatose, she returns home to find Frank with her gun. He reveals that he has her criminal record. Despite this, he is convinced there is more to her than meets the eye. Almost immediately after he leaves, Emily contacts Warden Stiles from her juvenile detention center asking for help. Stiles manages to chase Frank off when he attempts to access her records, but he later breaks into the storage room and finds a mugshot in Emily's files that depict a girl who is not the Emily Thorne from the Hamptons. Frank tracks down the real Emily at a strip club, and the story comes together for him. "Amanda" offers to meet Frank outside later, only for her to kill him just as he was planning to inform Victoria. "Amanda" steals his phone and wallet and hides the body before finding "Emily" and revealing that she "took care" of Frank.
The next episode, "Treachery", picks up almost immediately after "Charade". Emily and Amanda drive Frank's car away and abandon it. She asks Nolan to take care of the faux Amanda and doctor her out of Lydia's photograph. Emily returns the doctored photo and list to Lydia, thus putting out "another fire". Emily finds Jack at Nolan's pool, meeting the faux Amanda, who does not give her name to him. Inside the house, Emily sets up a bank account for her former cellmate and promises that she can live in her apartment in Paris. Nolan's bodyguard discovers that Frank is dead, and Nolan, remembering blood stains on the faux Amanda's clothes, confronts Emily about making him hide a capital murderer. Emily provides the faux Amanda with a new identity, Kara Wilkins, which she explains was the name of her mother. She then has Nolan turn off the GPS in Frank's phone so that she can delete his copy of the real Emily's mugshot. Emily later discovers two detectives inside her house speaking to Daniel. They interrogate her briefly about Frank's murder, and she gives them a false background to finally throw off Victoria's suspicions about her. Daniel then moves in with her after confronting Victoria about sending the police after Emily, and as they share an embrace, the faux Amanda is seen standing outside the house. Emily is last seen activating the GPS and placing it outside Grayson Manor.
In "Suspicion", Emily attends the "Business by the Beach" volleyball match run by Grayson Global, when she receives a call from Nolan revealing that "Amanda" did not leave for Paris, and is sitting on Jack's boat. Emily confronts "Fauxmanda", who refuses to leave as she has taken a liking to Jack. Later on, Emily is called by Nolan, who caught Tyler Barrol (Daniel's college friend) using his computer to research David Clarke after he had gotten ahold of Lydia's shredded speech (they were unaware of the speech's existence until this point). Emily asks that Nolan invest with Tyler, hoping that Tyler would be planning to blackmail the Graysons. She then calls the man who trained her in the art of revenge, Satoshi Takeda, a powerful Japanese CEO. The next day, at the New Investors party, Emily asks for his assistance. Meanwhile, Nolan manages to steal Lydia's speech from Tyler. That night, Jack shows up at Emily's house with the false Amanda, who revealed to Jack that she was really Amanda Clarke. Emily allows the false Amanda to use the porch swing, while she is visibly upset and knows that Amanda is now a threat to her plans.
In "Loyalty", Emily is first seen training her combat skills with Takeda, while discussing Tyler and Amanda. Takeda recommends that she turn Victoria against the false Amanda. Later on, Nolan shows Emily his web history, which contains Google searches on David Clarke. Emily instructs Nolan to pull back his investment, which will hopefully push Tyler to blackmail the Graysons. She then discovers the sex tape between Tyler and Nolan. Amanda visits Emily and explains that she did not intend to tell Jack their secret. Emily then gives Amanda a journal of fake memories from her time in foster care, and introduces her to Daniel. Emily informs him that Tyler is blackmailing Nolan using a sex tape, which is how he got him to invest in Grayson Global. Later, Emily speaks in Japanese to Takeda, conversing in Japanese about her ultimate plans (to find proof of her father's innocence in Conrad's files). Meanwhile, Tyler confronts Nolan about the sex tapes, which were sent to Conrad by Emily, and steals the "whale cam". Nolan and Takeda abandon Emily, the former for destroying his relationship with Tyler, and the latter when he is witness to a kiss between her and Daniel. Finally, Emily ensures that Victoria knows "Amanda Clarke" is back in town.
In "Duress", Emily proposes a clam bake on the beach for Daniel's birthday party. She then apologizes to Nolan and discovers that he has hacked the GPS in Tyler's phone to track him. Emily goes to the Graysons' pool house to retrieve the whale cam, finding it and Tyler's empty bottle of prescribed antipsychotic in his duffle bag. Calling his physician, it is revealed Tyler was never enrolled at Harvard and has been on the run from police. Through the police database, Nolan and Emily discovers that Tyler has a brother in San Franscisco. Nolan calls Alex Barrol and demands that he comes to the Hamptons to collect his brother. Emily shows the empty prescription bottle to Daniel and Ashley, causing the former of whom to confront Tyler and demand him to leave. Tyler confronts Nolan and leaves him bound and gagged. The "whale cam" feed shows that it is located in Emily's house. Emily intentionally allows Tyler to enter her home (although she does not expect him to discover, but fail to open, the secret compartment in her floor), where she slips Frank's wallet into his pocket and is led back to the party at gunpoint. Tyler decides to play a game he calls "Truth or Die", and demands that Conrad tell the truth about David Clarke, or he'll kill Emily. Conrad refuses, though just as Tyler is about to kill Emily, Alex and Nolan come to the scene. Alex talks him into putting down the gun, giving Jack enough time to tackle Tyler to the ground. Tyler is arrested, and we learn from Nolan that the gun was never loaded and that Emily had planned all of this.
In "Infamy", Emily and Nolan attend the book reading of a famous author, Mason Treadwell, who wrote a novel portraying David Clarke in a negative light. The pair meet with him at his home to discuss writing Nolan's biography. There, they discover the only copy of the manuscript for his upcoming memoir, and that he has tapes of interviews with David and Amanda Clarke. At the shooting range, Emily tells Nolan that as a child, Treadwell had interviewed her and offered to help save her father, although he was later bribed by Victoria and Conrad to corroborate their story (which led Emily to believe her father was guilty). All the while, Victoria has asked Mason to discover why Amanda Clarke is back in town, and he requests a "reprise" interview with her for his memoir, which was the manuscript Emily found in his home. Emily manipulates Amanda into threatening Treadwell. Later on at night, while Nolan and Treadwell are out at dinner, Emily breaks into Treadwell's cottage and steals his interview tapes, before using his cigarettes to burn down the house. Through the tapes, a revelation is made: Charlotte Grayson may be David Clarke's biological daughter as a result of his affair with Victoria.
In "Commitment", Emily reveals to Nolan her new plan to plant the tapes in Amanda's backpack, while sending one to the Graysons to throw off their divorce. She urges Amanda to lay low, claiming Victoria set Treadwell's house on fire. Conrad orders a paternity test which confirms that he is not Charlotte's father. Victoria then hires a subcontractor that Frank used for "various tasks" to locate the tapes at The Stowaway, and has Amanda invited to Grayson Manor for tea. There, she expresses her firm belief that the girl having tea with her is not the real Amanda Clarke. Victoria has her divorce lawyer submit a spoon Amanda used for DNA testing, though Huntley, who has been working with Emily, intercepts the test to provide Emily's DNA. Emily plants the Treadwell tapes in Amanda's backpack. Daniel also proposes to Emily at a dinner. Soon after, Nolan storms into Emily's house in a fit of rage; Jack was brutally attacked by an unknown man for the tapes, and he blames Emily. Emily reveals the truth about herself to Amanda, and finally convinces her to flee, while asking for her phone. The next morning, Emily informs Nolan of her plan to turn down Daniel's proposal, although her plan fires back into action when Daniel says that Victoria told him David Clarke raped her.
In "Perception", Emily copies one of the tapes to a CD and plans to send it to Charlotte, from "Amanda Clarke". She also discovers from Amanda's old phone that Jack has found one of the tapes, which Victoria's henchman missed. Nolan finds that it is the interview with Emily as a child. In a flashback, we are shown that Emily saw Daniel before, although she was disguised as a Boston girl at Harvard. After Nolan fails to get the tape from Jack, she has Amanda try to convince him to give the tape to her, although this fails as well. At the dinner that night, Emily decides not to give the tape to Charlotte after eavesdropping on a conversation between her and Conrad. Nolan goes against Emily and shows Jack the tape, which reveals the affair between David and Victoria. Amanda calls Emily after Jack attempts to speak with her, saying she is no longer willing to listen to her and that she is going after Jack. Jack storms into Grayson Manor and confronts Victoria about the tape, threatening to tell the truth about her. The ensuing dinner conversation causes Charlotte to discover the truth. Returning home, Emily discovers the secret compartment in her floor open, with the Infinity Box missing.
In "Chaos", Emily and Nolan discover that Tyler has escaped, that he stole the box, and that he has kidnapped Amanda. He threatens to kill Amanda if Emily cancels the engagement party. Emily arranges a meeting in a parking garage with Tyler (and without her knowledge, Amanda, who has turned against Emily). He demands five million dollars from her, which she wires to the Canadian National Bank. Because Jack plans to finally leave for Haiti, Emily has Nolan plant his whale camera on Jack's boat to ensure his safe departure. Emily and Daniel go to the Fire and Ice Engagement Party, where Daniel asks Emily to run away with him to Paris, although she refuses and the two argue. At the party, Satoshi Takeda returns to Emily and returns the Infinity Box disguised as a present, and urges her to bury it on the beach. After Victoria gives her speech, Charlotte alerts the party to a dead body on the beach, which is not that of Daniel, but Tyler.
In "Scandal", Emily becomes suspicious that Tyler may have told Daniel the truth about her. She later finds Daniel searching the floorboards, finding a fake Infinity Box that she planted there full of fishing tools. The next day, Emily finds Jack on her porch and then discovers through Nolan's whale cam that Amanda ran to the docks after Jack the previous night. Later on, the police show up at Emily's door with a warrant for Daniel's arrest. Daniel is convinced that he had shot Tyler only once, and that he had fallen unconscious afterward. His lawyer, Benjamin Brooks, decides to use this to further a theory that there was a third shooter who framed Daniel (Victoria is convinced this was the work of Amanda). Emily learns that the security tapes from the engagement party were tampered with, and confronts Nolan, knowing he has been working for Takeda. At Daniel's trial, Daniel is denied bail and sent to Riker's Island. A flashback going 48 hours earlier shows Emily racing into her home with the Infinity Box after digging it up. Takeda confronts her there and they have a brief fight before he reveals he was Tyler's killer, and assures her that Amanda "has been taken care of", leaving her to smash the Infinity Box into the floor in a fit of anger.
In "Doubt", Emily decides to go against Takeda by turning the evidence away from Daniel and Jack as suspects. Emily has Nolan find Mason Treadwell and convince him to return to writing, and also persuade Jack to follow Amanda to Montreal on the hunch she is there to collect Tyler's five million dollars. Treadwell creates an online blog on which he reports the Graysons' belief that Amanda is framing Daniel. Later on, Victoria and Emily receive word that Daniel has been attacked in jail. The judge for Daniel's case, Elizabeth Hawthorne, sets bail at $10 million and rules he can be released on house arrest. Emily suspects Victoria was involved and follows her to a bar, where she is able to photograph Victoria paying off a mysterious man. The Graysons quickly discover that their defense for Daniel is entirely ruined when Declan recants his statement about seeing Jack on the beach, revealing that Charlotte was high on oxycodone and alcohol. Later that evening, Emily disguises herself and returns to the bar where she saw Victoria and her lackey, and manipulates him into confessing everything he knows about the Graysons on a recording. She later seduces him into driving her back to his apartment, when she attacks him in an alley to avenge his beatings of both Daniel and Jack. Emily is last seen stealing an impression of his car key.
Months later, in "Justice", Daniel's trial has commenced. Emily learns that Lee Moran (Victoria's henchman) is now threatening Ann Woodbury, one of the jurors. At the trial, Declan continues with his new story that there was no man on the beach. Nolan learns that Jack possesses a hoodie covered in blood, which links him to the murder, so Emily has him take Jack out of The Stowaway while she breaks into the bar to steal it, causing Jack to think that the Graysons paid Moran to take the fall for the murder. Returning home, Emily finds Daniel violating house arrest to confront her about his suspicion that she and Jack are having an affair. Emily plants Jack's hoodie in Lee Moran's car, before alerting the police. His arrest provokes him into threatening to expose what he's done for Victoria, though he is killed in-prison by an unknown white-haired associate of Conrad's, who stages the murder as a suicide and leaves a note in which Lee "confesses" to Tyler's murder. Through bugs in the Grayson home, Emily learns that Conrad had the same man kill her father.
In "Absolution", Emily begins her inquest into her father's murder. Charlotte reveals that she found a hidden photograph depicting David writing on the day he died, April 22, 2002. This causes Emily to realize that a journal is missing from the Infinity Box. She finds Nolan attempting to hide it and takes it back. The journal's last entry leads her to a supposedly deceased former Grayson Global secretary, Carole Miller. Contacting Miller's physician, Emily learns that Miller is living in Lancaster, Philadelphia. Posing as a Homeland Security agent, she attempts to gain information on Miller's ties to her father, only to discover that she is Nolan's aunt. Miller reveals that she was investigating Grayson Global for proof of Conrad's coverup, but before she and Nolan could launch an appeal, he had been killed. Nolan faked his aunt's death to protect her (this is why he withheld the journal from Emily). Miller also tells Emily that there was a white-haired man who visited Conrad twice. After Emily picks up Daniel from Riker's (much to the public's outrage), she is able to listen to a conversation between him and Conrad in which he tells Daniel everything. During an interview with Cynthia McFadden, Daniel does not reveal the truth. Emily informs Nolan of her new plan: to marry Daniel, and to kill her father's killer.
In "Grief", after watching a meeting between Conrad and "the white-haired man", Emily announces to Nolan her new plan: to force another meeting between the two so she can track her father's killer to his hiding place and murder him. Sending a tape she recorded of her and Daniel sleeping together, she prepares to leave for their meeting location only for Daniel and Ashley to force her into staying so she may hear ideas Ashley has for their wedding. Frustrated, she has Nolan track down the white-haired man for her. He gives her an address after she gets rid of Daniel and Ashley, though it turns out the address was a fake. Nolan poses as a cableman to install cameras in the white-haired man's home, while his aunt Carole confronts Emily about her desire to kill. Emily finds her dog Sammy on her porch, and calls Jack to inform him that he is gravely ill. As Sammy dies, Emily and Jack share their first kiss, though they are unaware that Ashley is watching them. Later that evening, Emily thanks Nolan for helping her see the light at the end of the tunnel, and sees that Daniel possesses evidence of her father's innocence.
In the first season's finale, "Reckoning", Emily stages a break-in in her home and tells Daniel the white-haired man stole his evidence. She contacts Nolan to help her access the data on an encrypted hard drive, though he does not answer his phone. Emily finds a camera feed from another source in Nolan's home, with a sign asking her to call his cell. She does so, and discovers the white-haired man has abducted him. Identifying herself as Amanda Clarke, Emily and the white-haired man meet, and she manages to trick the white-haired man into searching for the evidence at Port Authority. She frees herself and orders Nolan to deliver the evidence in his desk to the SEC while she stays behind to slay her father's killer. When the white-haired man returns, he and Emily engage in a fight, though she is not able to bring herself to kill him.
