Harvest Time (Croppers) → Harvest Time (Mowers) – That's how it is named in Russian. "Cropper" is wildly ambiguous in English. Even in the literal meaning the words are way not the same. --Altenmann >talk 17:48, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
- Comment Wouldn't "Reapers" be a more accurate translation? 162 etc. (talk) 22:38, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
- I've seen a number of painting on a similar subject and these people are called mowers [1], File:Jozef_Israëls_-_Maaiers.jpg, File:Capitole Toulouse - Salle Henri-Martin - L'été par Henri Martin.jpg ... and look what I found! --Altenmann >talk 23:34, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
- But right, there are reapers as well File:George Stubbs - Reapers - Google Art Project.jpg, File:Henry Herbert La Thangue - The Return of the Reapers - Google Art Project.jpg. But mowing is a particular kind of reaping, i.e., in this case "Mowers" will be a more specific translation. In Russian language косцы use a scythe, while a sickle is used by жнецы (and communists:-). --Altenmann >talk 23:40, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
- Per Reaper#Hand reaping, "mowing" is cutting grass for hay, while "reaping" is cutting grain stalks for cereal crops. Either of these can be done with a sickle or a scythe. The subjects in the painting are in a field of rye, thus they are reapers. 162 etc. (talk) 16:14, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- You know that Wikipedia articles are not a valid reference, right? Expecially thoroughly unreferenced ones. "Reaping" is basically synonymous with "harvesting". E.g., you can reap apples. While "mowing" is to cut plants with a scythe. The subjects in the painting are swinging their scythes hence they are mowers. --Altenmann >talk 22:16, 14 September 2024 (UTC)

- If nobody else chimes in, I will agree with your variant; because in any case, I didnt find Myasoedov's painting named "Croppers" anywhewre. --Altenmann >talk 22:24, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
