Authorship

[edit]

There is an AFC comment signed Steve that requests that Wikipedia reconsider its position on acceptance of this page. However, the name of the account is User:Bill C. Cobbs. That is the name of a living person, the subject of this draft. A user account is not permitted to be the same as the name of a living person unless they really are the same. If you are Bill Cobbs, this is an autobiography, and they are discouraged. If you are not Bill Cobbs, then this is a misuse of the username policies. Notability

[edit]

The argument is made that we should reconsider our policy on an article about a candidate for Governor of New York, which is perhaps that we should reconsider our policies on articles about living persons who are running for public office. I will explain. I am aware that this is not likely to be persuasive to those who think that Wikipedia has an obligation to level any particular playing field. See Other Stuff Exists first. The fact that other articles exist that should not exist is not an argument for keeping or accepting any one article. However, the real issue has to do with multiple candidates for an office. Some of the candidates may be the subjects of articles because they have already passed general notability guidelines and have been covered in newspapers of general circulation in New York State. Some of the candidates may already be in sufficiently high office, such as the New York House of Representatives or the New York State Senate, so that they already pass political notability and already are the subjects of articles in Wikipedia. If one candidate hasn't already been covered by reliable sources, then maybe he isn't a notable candidate for Governor. It isn't Wikipedia's responsibility to provide publicity to candidates for public office who are not already known. Robert McClenon (talk) 20:30, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
