Nolan was revealed in October 2024 to be developing his next film following Oppenheimer (2023) at that film's studio Universal, when Damon was in talks to star. He was confirmed alongside Holland later that month, while Hathaway, Zendaya, Nyong'o, Pattinson and Theron joined in November. Filming is scheduled to begin in early 2025.

The film is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 17, 2026.

Development

[edit]

In October 2024, director Christopher Nolan was revealed to be developing his next film at Universal Pictures, after working with that studio on Oppenheimer (2023). Nolan was once again writing the script and producing the film with his wife Emma Thomas via their production company Syncopy Inc. Matt Damon was in talks to star in the film, after collaborating with Nolan on Oppenheimer and Interstellar (2014).[1][2] Unlike Oppenheimer, which Universal acquired in an auction, this film was directly set up at that studio. The Hollywood Reporter debunked speculation that the film would adapt the British spy television series The Prisoner (1967–68), which Nolan previously considered in the 2000s.[2] Later that month, Tom Holland joined the cast, with Damon confirmed to star.[3] In November, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron joined the cast in undisclosed roles.[4][5][6][7]
