The Mount Barker Rail Trail is a 5 kilometres cycling and walking path in the Adelaide Hills in the South Australian city of Mount Barker. It is open to pedestrians and cyclists, and runs for 5 km. Even though being a rail trail, it is not on the railway formation and has undulations than a true rail trail would have.
Route description
[edit]The Mount Barker Rail Trail begins as a concrete path. After passing under the freeway in a pedestrian tunnel, it runs in between a housing estate and the freeway causeway. It then passes under the railway line and turns immediately to follow the line. It crosses Cameron Road near a disused railway level crossing and the turns right to briefly follow Cameron Road. The track resumes through a lush vegetation ensuing the creek for a next kilometre, set apart from the rail line by transport depot and caravan park. It then crosses a creek on a wide bridge then crossing under the railway bridge. After making a right turn, it over another bridge over the same creek. The trail ends at the western edge of the Bluestone Linear Park.[1]
