Misato Yokoyama (Born December 3, 1973) is a Japanese classical pianist.

Career

Born in Obihiro, Japan Misato Yokoyama studied under Reiko Sakuma, Emiko Tadenuma, and Kenji Watanabe. After enrolling in the piano department of the Tokyo University of the Arts in 1992, she went to the UK on a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music, where she studied under Maria Curcio, a world-renowned piano educator, and Christopher Elton. In 1995 she won second place at the Isernia International Piano Competition in Italy. In 1996 she graduated from the same academy's graduate school at the top of her class, winning the Best Recital Award.

In 1997 she released her debut CD, which was featured in various music magazines. The same album won the HMV Japan Newcomer Award in 1998. She returned to Japan in 2000. The following year, she held her debut recital at the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan. In 2008 she formed "The Grand Trio" with Takumi Komoriya (violinist, concertmaster of the Yomiuri Symphony Orchestra) and Ryoichi Fujimori (cello, principal cellist of the NHK Symphony Orchestra). They released their first album in 2009 and hold regular recitals.

Misato Yokoyama has performed worldwide, appearing as soloist with various symphony orchestras, including the Royal Academy of Music Orchestra, the Music in the Mountains Festival Orchestra, and the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. She has recorded several chamber music and solo CDs.
