Khan Talat Mahmud Rafy (Bengali: খান তালাত মাহমুদ রাফি) is a Bangladeshi student activist and joint convener of the Bangladesh Ganatantrik Chhatra Sangsad.[1] He was coordinator of the Students Against Discrimination at Chittagong University.[2] He was one of the prominent coordinator to lead the July Revolution in Chattogram.[3][4]
Personal life and education
[edit]Rafy is a student in Dramatic Arts[5] at Chittagong University.[6] He hails from Netrokona,[5] where his father, Tariqul Islam, a freedom fighter of Bangladesh Liberation War, resides.[7]

Rafy is a coordinator of the Students Against Discrimination,[8] which initially focused on challenging discriminatory quotas in educational institutions.[9] Over time, the movement broadened its scope, evolving into a wider campaign[10] that demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government.[11]
Rafy was one of the prominent coordinator of the protests at Chittagong University in mid-2024.[12] Rafy became particularly notable when a video went viral, showing him standing in front of the police, who were pointing guns at the protesters in an effort to disperse them.[13] Following this incident, Rafy reported receiving a death threat.[14][15]
