Datong House, located next to the Former residence of Yen Chia-kan in the Bo’ai Special Zone, Zhongzheng District, Taipei City, Taiwan, was completed in 1954. Datong House was originally the Guesthouse of the United States Forces Taiwan and later became the office of the former President of the Republic of China Yen Chia-kan. It is now one of the national monuments of Taiwan.
Since the Mutual Defense Treaty between the United States of America and the Republic of China was signed, the Foreign Affairs Office of the Combined Logistics Command established more than 20 US military guesthouses in Taipei City, one of which was Datong House. These guesthouses were initially planned in 1953 by Yen Chia-kan in an effort to secure U.S. aid. Datong House is located outside the north wall of the former residence of Chia-kan Yen at the intersection of Chongqing S. Rd. and Aiguo W. Rd. Its land is borrowed from the Bank of Taiwan by the Presidential Office Third Bureau and the Combined Logistics Command Headquarters. The site belongs to the Bo’ai Special Zone with height limitations. The house was built for the Inspirational Society. The main building is two stories high with a hexagonal pavilion in the front building, and the interior is decorated in Chinese style.
