Cian Shields (born 7 March 2005)[1] is a British and Irish racing driver from Scotland, who most recently competed in the FIA Formula 2 Championship for AIX.

He competed in the 2024 FIA Formula 3 Championship with Hitech, and was runner-up in the 2023 Euroformula Open Championship.[2]

Career

[edit]

Karting

[edit]

Shields started karting at the age of 11 in 2016.[3] In 2017 he competed in IAME Cadets with British GT driver Dean MacDonald being his driver coach.[4] In 2019 he became champion of the X30 Junior category in the IAME Series Benelux.[5][6]

GB3 Championship

[edit]

In 2022, Shields began his single-seater career by joining Hitech Grand Prix in the GB3 Championship.[6][7] He would take his first victory in the reversed-grid race at Silverstone, holding off Nick Gilkes in the closing laps.[8][9] Until the end of the season, which he ultimately finished in thirteenth, he would take two further podium finishes.[2]

Euroformula Open

[edit]

In 2023 he joined Team Motopark to compete in the Euroformula Open Championship.[2] Throughout the season Shields took four wins at Spa-Francorchamps, Paul Ricard, Spielberg and Mugello becoming vice-champion behind Noel León.[10][11][12][13]

FIA Formula 3

In late 2023 Shields rejoined Hitech Pulse-Eight for post-season testing in the FIA Formula 3 Championship.[14] Later that December, Shields was announced to be driving for Hitech during the 2024 FIA F3 season.[15]

Prototype racing

[edit]

In 2022 Shields joined 360 Racing to compete in the Prototype Challenge at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Radical SR3. In the first race he was the winning car in the Radical class.[16]

FIA Formula 2

[edit]

In November 2024, it was announced that Shields would race with AIX Racing for the last two rounds of the 2024 Formula 2 season at Qatar and Abu Dhabi. He is replacing Niels Koolen, and will be partnered alongside Joshua Dürksen.[17][18]
