The Annamalai University Centre of Advanced Study (CAS) in Marine Biology is a public state university in Tamil Nadu, India. It is notable as one of the oldest marine institutions in India. The 14.3-acre sprawling campus offers courses of higher education in Marine biology. This university provides 19 Marine-related UG, PG and Ph.D. courses.
Eminent scientist Prof. R.V. Seshaiya (Late) established this university in 1957 at Parangipettai as a field laboratory of the Department of Zoology. In October 1963, the department was recognized by the University Grants Commission[1], it is one of the oldest and most prestigious marine universities in India and India's first research station for the study of marine life in the 1960s.[2]
Faculty
[edit]This university provides 19 Marine biology-related UG, PG and Ph.D. courses.[3][4] More than 200 research project reports have been completed in this center.[5] The National and International organizations have also contributed funds for 45 research projects and it is still helping today. The center's extensive library has nearly 7000 national and international books.[6] The Environment Information Center (ENVIS) of India is working well here.[7][8][9]
Museum
[edit]Thousands of people and students every year visit the museum. Sea horse, Sea snake, Sea cucumber, flying koala, Allah fish, Koduva fish, Paarai fish, Tiger fish, the list goes on and on the example of 60 years of hard work of faculty members to collection and preservation.[6]
Research
[edit]It has also researched growing mangroves and protecting coastal vegetation, sea dunes and dunes vegetation.[10] More than 200 research project reports have been completed in this center. The National and International organizations have also contributed funds for 45 research projects and it is still helping today.[11][12] [13] <redacted>[14]
