Adal Debretsion (5 August 2005 – 27 September 2023) better known as Adouli, was a Swedish rapper of Ethiopian descent. He was most known for his debut single "Rapstar."[1][2][3]
Biography
[edit]On July 19, 2019, the then 13-year-old Adal released his debut single "Rapstar." The lyrics reflect a criminal lifestyle, where he describes a dream of becoming a music star. "Rapstar" debuted at 76th place on the Swedish charts and received hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube. As of September 2023, "Rapstar" had over seven million streams on Spotify.[4][5]
On July 7, 2020, Adal, along with his then record label Bencu Recordz, released his debut EP Sanningen, which also became his last project before his death. Sanningen contains five tracks and features Einár on the second track, "Magisk."[6]
In 2020, Adal appeared in episode five of the SVT series Streams.[7]
In August 2021, Adal's last single before his death, "Bunda," was released. The song was released with backing from the record company MadeNiggaMusic, which included artists like Yasin and JB at the time.[8]
Death and Aftermath
[edit]On September 27, 2023, at 6:43 p.m., the police received an alert about a shooting at the Mälarhöjden sports field in the Stockholm suburb of Fruängen, during an ongoing soccer training session. When the police arrived, they found a seriously injured man who had been shot several times in the head. The man, identified as Adal, was taken to the hospital, but his life could not be saved, and he was pronounced dead at 8:25 p.m.[9][5][10][11][12]
In connection with the murder, several videos and images showing the events were spread on social media.[13][14]
After Adal's death, his most popular singles, "Rapstar" and "Mamacita," entered Spotify's Top 50 Sweden list.
On September 27, 2024, one year after Adal's death, the posthumous single "När vi var små," produced by Alex Lionheart, was released. The single was released by the family to "honor his memory and make the day a day of tribute."[15]
