Background

[edit]

For the history of the Vanderbilt Cup: see Vanderbilt Cup

The race clashed with the 1937 Belgian Grand Prix with two drivers from each of the main European teams taking part in either race. Organizers moved the race forward to 3 July allowing time to catch the ship home in case of wet weather delays. The race was subsequently postponed until 5 July due to heavy rain. The track had been modified since the previous year with faster curves and a reduced length of 3.3 mi from 4.0 mi. [1]
