Don Diablo (born February 27, 1980 as Don Pepijn Schipper) is a Dutch record producer, songwriter, artist, DJ. His parents named him after Don van Vliet (Captain Beefheart).
Biography
Don Diablo is an Amsterdam-based dj/producer, who produces his own music, does remixes and production work for other artists, (co)directs his own musicvideos and travels around the globe to do DJ-gigs. After signing his first record deal at age fifteen, Don Diablo has had the opportunity to grow as a producer as well as an artist. His music is a blend of musical styles varying from electro to dubstep and from downtempo electronica to drum & bass. At the end of 2005, Don Diablo founded his own record label and event brand, Sellout Sessions, and started fine-tuning his own sound and raising his profile in his native country, the Netherlands. Success followed soon after with (underground) hits like "Blow," "Who's Your Daddy", "Pain Is Temporary, Pride Is Forever", "Hooligans" and "Animale". "Blow" was the first single to be rolled out internationally and got licensed to over ten territories after creating quite a buzz in the club scene.
Don Diablo's hectic tour schedule has taken him from London to Tokyo and from Miami to Sydney, playing at clubs and festivals like Glastonbury, Creamfields, Tomorrowland, Future Music Festival, Ministry of Sound, Razzmatazz and Space (Ibiza) to name a few. While travelling the world, Don Diablo also managed to complete his studies and scoop up a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. Besides his own career as an artist, Don Diablo has also produced for other people. You can hear one of his co-productions “Make You Pop” in the brand new (worldwide) Diplo Blackberry campaign. Don recently worked with artists like Rox, Example, Dragonette, Sidney Samson, Diplo and Ou est le Swimming pool and remixed for the Tinie Tempah, Mika, Chemical Brothers, Cassius, Gorillaz, Public Enemy, Iggy Pop, Plump DJ's and many others (see below for a full list). Don Diablo proved his ability in A & R by discovering, signing and then licensing the UK top 3 chart hit Exceeder by Mason. The record was originally signed to Middle of the Road; a record label set up by Don Diablo and infamous Amsterdam based club promoter Roy Avni (Electro Nation) who passed away in 2010.
Don Diablo has also been very active in the blogscene. According to North American music blog aggregator The Hype Machine he was named “Most Blogged Artist' in the world several times. Which did not just give lots of kudos from the internet community and the alternative press, but also brought him in contact with artists like Diplo, Example and the singer of the Canadian electropop group Dragonette: Martina Sorbara. A collaboration between the two resulted in the single: “Animale”. The musicvideo that accompanied the single became a big online hit and was nominated for a TMF award in the category "best video of the year" (2011).
