Music career

[edit]

Dijon's music career began as one half of the duo, Abhi//Dijon, which he formed with a high school friend, Abhirath Raju, while he was studying literature[5] at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.[3] Between 2012 and 2016, the duo released two EPs and one compilation. The duo released their last EP, Montana, in 2016.[4] Dijon moved from Ellicott City, Maryland to Los Angeles in the summer of 2016.[4] The next year, Duenas collaborated with the band Brockhampton, providing additional vocals in the song "Summer" on their 2017 album Saturation II. Duenas released his first solo EP in 2019 titled Sci Fi 1[6] In April 2020, Dijon collaborated with musician Charli XCX on the first song from her album How I'm Feeling Now titled "Pink Diamond", which he co-wrote and co-produced. Dijon released his second EP, How Do You Feel About Getting Married? in May 2020.[7][8] Duenas said he was influenced by Little Feat, Burial, and Lucinda Williams.[8] In December 2020, Duenas released a song titled "The Stranger", featuring John C. Reilly, Tobias Jesso Jr., and Becky and the Birds.[9]

Duenas' debut album Absolutely was released on November 5, 2021.[10] He collaborated with fellow musician Mk.gee who co-wrote and co-produced several songs on the album. Following his debut album release, Dijon also subsequently released a short film on December 22, directed by Jack Karaszewski. Dijon made his television debut on The Tonight Show on January 27, 2022, performing the song "Big Mike's".[11] On June 26, 2022, Dijon's song "Many Times" was featured on former U.S. president Barack Obama's 2022 summer playlist.[12]

He is credited as one of the songwriters on Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign's 2024 album Vultures 1 on the track "Stars".[13]
