Darul Huda Islamic University is a Sunni institution in Malappuram district, Kerala, India .[2], established in 1986[3], for the training of Islamic scholars in India.[4][5] It offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programs.[6]

Claims of university status

The University Grants Commission (India), India's only official body with the power to accredit universities, does not list DHIU as a university.[7] It is equivalent to an unaided and non-affiliated Indian madrasa.[8][2]

However, from 2009, it has claimed the status of a private Islamic university;[9] and from 2010 it has been affiliated to the League of Islamic Universities, Cairo, Egypt.[10][4] Memoranda of Understanding between DHIU and several universities across the world describe DHIU as a university. These universities include International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), University of al-Qarawiyyin, Morocco, Kuwait Islamic University, Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University of Brunei, Omdurman Islamic University, Sudan, and University of Tripoli, Libya.[citation needed]

Campus

Darul Huda campus consists of 50 acres known as 'Hidaya Nagar' owned by the DHIU. It is located in Chemmad city, Malappuram district, Kerala.
