Daniel MacPherson
Born
Daniel Donald MacPherson

Daniel MacPherson (born April 25, 1980, in Sydney, Australia) is an Australian actor and television presenter and, prior to becoming an actor, a professional triathlete.

Career

Daniel was discovered while completing the Kurnell triathlon, in south Sydney when he was 17, he soon landed the role of Joel Samuels in the popular soap opera Neighbours, starting in 1998.

Bearing a similarity to his real life, the blond-haired actor's character was also a budding athlete, until a knee injury. After leaving the soap in 2002, Daniel travelled to the UK to be in a British production of the musical Godspell in which He alternated lead Roles, Jesus and Judas with English entertainer Jonathan Wilkes. After completing the show, Daniel was offered the role PC Cameron Tait in the British drama The Bill, which he played from 2003 until late 2004.

Upon leaving The Bill, Daniel took a role opposite Sir Edward Woodward in The Mysteries, a play similar to the Mel Gibson Movie The Passion Of The Christ, playing Jesus and saw every scene move to a different part of the Canterbury Cathedral. The Critics once again applauded Daniel for his bold decision to take on the role.

In 2005, he returned to Australia to present the Australian version of the singing contest, The X Factor Which MacPherson received much recognition and positive feedback, proving himself as a seasoned presenter. After the season had finished, reports came out saying that before one of the live shows, MacPherson was accidentally hit over the head with a plank of wood, resulting in him being completely knocked out. After regaining consciousness, Daniel went on to do the show, heavily concussed and says he 'remembers nothing at all' from that night's broadcasting. This was undetected by the public and once again gained Daniel much praise from Channel 10 executives for his dedication.

The following year, Daniel hosted a three part series called Killer Sharks on Australia's Network Ten in February 2006.

In late 2006, he appeared in a British/Australian production entitled 'Tripping Over', appearing on Five (in the UK) and Network Ten (in Australia), also featuring ex-Neighbours co-star Brooke Satchwell, who played Anne Wilkinson. Tripping Over received numerous positive reviews with Daniel Being frequently singled out as the "Stand-Out" of the cast. The show was a hit with Australian critics, however due to funding issues was not picked up for a second season.

On October 2007, Daniel switched networks after taking a role on Channel 7's runaway hit and Australia's #1 Drama, City Homicide. It was announced in December that the show was picked up for a second season and was in negotiations for a third.

On Sunday August 3, 2008, Channel 7 announced that he would be taking over the Hosting role on Dancing with the Stars, after former host Daryl Somers resigned at the end of 2007. This will be his first live hosting gig since The X Factor in 2005.

Other Projects

Daniel's decided to take his career to an edgier level in 2004, this became apparent after he posed nude in two major magazines. One was for a gay men's magazine Attitude which Daniel denied all gay rumours,

"I am completely supportive of the gay community, however I am straight"

He also appeared in the Australian women's magazine Cleo.

Daniel starred two pantomimes at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury alongside Paul Hendy and Leila Birch. Drawing audiences from all over the world, including Sir Bob Geldof and his daughters and The Spice Girls, Emma Bunton

In 2006, Daniel hosted the Network Ten New Year's Eve broadcast alongside Big Brother personality Gretel Killeen. The broadcast caused much controversy after former Big Brother house-mates Ryan Fitzgerald and Bree Amer appeared to be drunk throughout their segments of the evening. Notably, MacPherson received much praise for being a 'complete professional' and 'Keeping it together' and left his reputation unscathed.

It has been known that Daniel is a keen athlete and missed out by one spot at the Port Macquarie Iron Man to qualify for the world renowned Hawaiian Iron Man.

Personal life

Daniel grew up in Sydney's beachside suburb of Cronulla where he lists swimming, fishing, golf and watching the Cronulla Sharks a rugby league football team, as his favourite past times.

He has a younger sister called Brodie MacPherson who is signed to Disney Australia and a brother named Andrew MacPherson, all 3 MacPherson kids kept their fathers last name after his parents abrupt, but amicable divorce in 2004.

He attended Sydney Boys High School.

He has dated a string of famous women including McLeod's Daughters star Michala Banas, The SuperJesus lead singer Sarah McLeod, Cosmetics entrepreneur, Jemma Gawned, Supre founder, Cathy Van der Muelan and British actress Beth Cordingly. He has been linked to Danni Minogue, Naomi Robson and Laura Csortan.

He had been interviewed on gold logie winning programme Rove Live more than any other celebrity.

Daniel can be seen hanging out with fellow sutherland shire buddies, Ian Thorpe, Cheyenne Tozzi and Tahyna Tozzi, Jason Stevens and Lara Bingle frequently.

Daniel is of Christian faith and his brother is a youth leader at a large church in the Sutherland Shire, the same church attended by Matt Corby, Tarasai Vushe and Daniel Mifsud.

Daniel was accepted into MENSA as a child.
