Connor Marc Colquhoun (/kəˈhuːn/ kə-HOON;[4] born 26 July 1996), known online as CDawgVA, is a Welsh streamer, YouTuber, voice actor, and podcaster currently based in Tokyo, Japan. He is affiliated with the Kadokawa-backed agency GeeXPlus.

Career

[edit]

Colquhoun created his YouTube channel CDawgVA in February 2014.[5] Colquhoun started voice acting in parallel to his YouTube career, doing mainly amateur work with a few paying gigs. When Colquhoun lived in London, he worked professionally doing corporate narrations and commercials.[6]

In November 2019, Colquhoun moved to Tokyo to begin working as an influencer for the Kadokawa-backed agency GeeXPlus.[7] The effort was to help promote/introduce anime and Japanese culture to the rest of the world through his content.[7] In February 2020, Colquhoun joined Joey Bizinger (The Anime Man) and Garnt Maneetapho (Gigguk) in creating and hosting a weekly podcast called Trash Taste, where they discuss anime, manga, otaku culture, and their experiences while living in Japan.[8][9] The first episode was released on 5 June 2020, all episodes are available on YouTube, Spotify, and iTunes.[10]

In both 2020 and 2021, Colquhoun was a presenter at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards.[11][12] In August 2020, Colquhoun participated in a livestreamed chess tournament called Tournament Arc, hosted by Chess.com for anime YouTubers.[13] In the finals, Colquhoun lost against fellow Trash Taste host Garnt Maneetapho.[14] In July 2021's sequel championship, Tournament Arc 2, Colquhoun finished in fourth place overall.[15]

On 11 December 2022, Colquhoun participated in a surprise chess-slap match with Ludwig Ahgren at the Mogul Chessboxing Championship, held at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, United States.[16][17] On 1 March 2023, Colquhoun announced that he would be exclusively streaming on Twitch after signing an agreement with the livestreaming service.[18] In 2023, Colquhoun participated and won PogChamps 5.[19]

Videos

[edit]

Many of Colquhoun's videos feature him cosplaying and role-playing, with roles ranging from hosts, butlers, pole dancers, and visual kei musicians.[20][21] His YouTube channel gained popularity due to his anime-related content, with his favorite being JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.[22]

Philanthropy

[edit]

In 2022, Colquhoun and Chris Broad participated in an eight-day, 750 km (470 mi) 'cyclethon' across Hokkaido to raise funds for the Immune Deficiency Foundation (IDF). The cycle was streamed live on Twitch and raised over $310,000 USD.[23] The event was later nominated for, and won, the category of Best Philanthropic Stream Event at the 2023 Streamer Awards.[24]

In 2023, Colquhoun and Broad followed-up with a second cyclethon across Kyushu. The nine-day, 900 km (560 mi) bike ride from Fukuoka to Kitakyushu, via the perimeter of Kyushu island, raised over $555,000 USD for the IDF.[25][26] Later that year, Colquhoun was the auctioneer of a charity auction at the Biltmore Los Angeles. The auction featured unique items from various Twitch and YouTube streamers, raising over $329,000 USD.[27]

In 2024, Colquhoun and Broad did a third cyclethon from Yamaguchi to Tokyo. The fourteen-day, 1,000 km (620 mi) bike ride included guest cyclists Garnt Maneetapho, Felix Kjellberg, Peter Macy, and Natsuki Aso; raising over $1 million USD for the IDF.[28][29] Later that year, Colquhoun also organized and presented his second charity auction on Twitch, raising a total of $517,874 USD for the IDF with contributions from streamers like Jerma985, Ludwig, and Pokimane.[30][31][32]
