Conner High School is a 9-12 grade public school located in Hebron, Kentucky. Conner is part of a larger campus that includes Conner Middle School and Goodridge Elementary. The Boone County Area Technology Center (formerly Boone County Vocational School) also sits on the same campus. Conner is accredited by the Commission of Secondary Schools of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and by the State of Kentucky.[1]
History
The school is named after the Conner family of Hebron, who donated the land due to overcrowding in nearby Boone County High School, located in Florence, Ky. Established in 1970, Conner opened with less than 600 students in 10th through 12th grades, and graduated 136 students in 1971. Today Conner has graduated nearly 6000 students.[2] Upon the opening of Ryle High School, Conner had the lowest student population of any of the three Boone County public high schools. The school's size has grown and now uses Small Learning Communities (a misnomer, given that the smallest contains over 200 students; they are generally called "academies") with the stated goal of separating students by their career interest and plans. There are five academies: The Freshman Academy, Science & Industries, Cultural Studies & the Arts, Health & Human Services, and Business & Technology. In reality, though, the separation of students into these academies is all but superficial, as the core curriculum is the same for all, and the separation is frequently broken to more evenly distribute students among the often overcrowded classes. In addition, students can still choose any electives they want with relative freedom. The academies factor into class schedules only in deciding what priority a student will have in getting into a certain class; e.g. a student in the Cultural Studies & and the Arts academy will have higher priority when trying to get into art than a similar student in the Science & Industries academy. In 2007, Tim Hitzfield replaced Michael Blevins as the school principal
Nancy Leisl, school's Choral Director, has worked diligently over her 28 years as educator to provide CHS with its most prized activity, The Conner Choirs. The Conner High School Chamber Choir, a small ensemble of 20-24 people, has maintained their position at the top of the state for nearly 2 decades. The Conner High School Women's Choir and the Freshman choir have also maintained a position at the top of the state as well.

Conner High School is home to several different performing arts programs, most notably its music program which encompasses orchestral music performance, vocal music performance, marching band, colorguard, and numerous other programs.
