In the late 1990s after the housing boom of Chino Hills, residents began to demand a new high school to relieve nearby Ruben S. Ayala High School from severe overcrowding. The CVUSD ultimately decided the location on Pomona Rincon Road in largely undeveloped southern Chino Hills was the most viable location. Students at the feeder junior high schools voted on a name for the new high school, temporarily dubbed "Fourth High School" and ultimately decided on Chino Hills High School. They also chose the school colours (navy blue, forest green and silver) and the mascot (the Huskies). |

CHHS officially opened in 2001 in a modular campus, with approximately 500 freshmen. As each year progressed, a new grade was added (year one: freshman; year two: sophomore, etc.). By the third year (the first year with juniors), the full campus was completed. The school graduated its first class in 2002. |

Schools for Schools - Sister School
During the 2008-2009 School Year, CHHS started a club known as Schools for Schools, a nationwide organization that helps schools in Africa that are not well equipped or not even fit to be a school. Chino Hills High entered in the Schools for Schools competition to raise the most money and raise the most books in their cluster, which in this case, was the Southern California/Nevada section. Chino Hills High was able to raise $10,411.05 and over 18,000 books. This won the school a chance to send a student to Uganda to see their sister school's progress and to see where there money went. The school chose Jennifer Umberg (Senior, President of Schools for Schools Club).[1]
Chino Hills High School supports the Anaka Secondary School of Uganda. Their current project is to build a Laboratory and Classroom Block.
Academics
Chino Hills High formally begins classes at 7:30 am and ends at 2:23 pm, with six official class periods, excluding lunch. At 6:24 am, "0" Period is offered for students who wish to take it. The campus is a closed campus, requiring all students to remain on school grounds during lunch time.
Chino Hills High School offers 15 Advanced Placement courses; due to constraints by the school district, the school was unable to secure the International Baccalaureate it was seeking to add. The school offers a Health Science Academy for students, this is the only school in the district to offer such a program. Additionally, CHHS offers classes in Journalism, Publication Design, Set Design, and numerous technology-based classes. Additionally, courses are offered in five foreign languages: Spanish, French, German, Japanese, and Mandarin Chinese.
Based on standardized test scores, the school was awarded an Academic Performance Index score of 779. Based on overall school performance, the school was recently awarded a six-year accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
Changes to the 2009-2010 Bell Schedule
For the past 9 school years, CHHS has used the basic 6 period class day. Starting in the 2009-2010 School Year, CHHS will adapt a new bell schedule that will be used from Tuesday through Friday (Monday is Common Planning Time Schedule) that will include an Intervention Period/Freshman Advisory Period, which will have extra class time, study hall, sports, and early lunch. Students from 10th-12th grade must have a 2.0 GPA in order to be exempted from the extra class time, which is intended to help students pull up their grades and eventually, their GPA. On Fridays, Juniors and Seniors with a 2.0 GPA or above will be allowed to have an off-campus lunch hour.

Spiritleaders
Chino Hills High School also is home to the CHHS Spiritleaders which are made up of the school's cheer teams, song teams, and mascots. The school has three cheer teams which include Varsity Cheer, Junior Varsity Cheer, and Freshmen cheer as well as three song teams which include Varsity Song, Junior Varsity Song, and Freshmen Song. The school mascots are also part of Spiritleading and the school generally has two Husky Mascots per year. The CHHS Spirtitleaders perform at the schools sporting events (such as football, basketball, and wrestling), cheer on the crowd at the school rallies, and also compete at a national level. The CHHS Spiritleaders have made both US Spiritleaders and USA nationals every year and some teams have even made it to Finals.
