The Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway, or National Expressway 7 (NE-7), is an under construction 258 km (160 mi) long, 4-lane wide[1] access-controlled expressway between the cities of Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka and Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. It will run from Hoskote in Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority to Sriperumbudur in Chennai Metropolitan Area. It is planned to allow vehicles to reach 120 km/h (75 mph).[2] The road was designated as a National Expressway on 1 January 2021.[3] The total project value is ₹17,930 crore.[4] The Expressway is expected to be completed before the end of 2025,[5][6] despite earlier dates announced by the national Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari.[7]
Melpadi in Vellore district and Ponapanthangal in Ranipet district will be major intersection points for transfers and real estate[8]
Prospects
[edit]The National Highways Development Project (NHDP) Phase-VI has been established, following expectations of the new government's involvement, and before the real estate prices begin to rise along the expressways, mainly near Ranipet -Ponnapanthangal-Arakkonam[9] (Tamil Nadu).[10]
New Project
[edit]Tata Motors have finalised to set up a ₹9,000 crore car manufacturing plant in Ranipet and GO has been published, which lies in Nemili Taluk of Ranipet district along the Chennai-Bangalore expressway near Ponapanthangal - Panapakkam road and real estate prices have increased to 25 times than normal around the factory area.
Construction
[edit]The NHAI has divided the construction work of 258 km long Bangalore–Chennai Expressway into 3 Phases with a total of 10 construction packages.[citation needed] It which will be executed simultaneously by 6 construction companies.[citation needed]

Extension
[edit]The Indian National Expressway Network was proposed by the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways (MoRTH). The Government of India envisioned a Bangalore–Mangalore Greenfield Expressway.[13] A Mangalore–Chennai Expressway through Bangalore has also been proposed.[14]
Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor
[edit]Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC) is planned to achieve accelerated development and regional industry agglomeration in the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. These projects have been planned under backbone of Multi Modal Connectivity infrastructure along chennai bangalore expressways. In Tamilnadu The Corridor plans are to comeup along Chennai, Sriperambadur, Ponnapanthangal (Near TATA Motors), Ranipet, Melpadi (Near BHEL) [15] [16]
Prospects
[edit]Realtors are secretly starting to invest in places near Walajapet (Banavaram, Keezhveeranam, Ponapanthangal) as these places have been marked as the next industrial hub. Japanese investors expressed interest in this road to link harbors. Japanese real estate companies such as Nippon Expressway Limited have conducted detailed studies on areas like Panniyur and Keezhveeranam village and encouraged investors to focus on these areas.

Many industrial hubs have planned to start up their next projects near Banavaram and Panniyur Village, which already has a TVS brake manufacturing unit. Mahindra, Bajaj, and Nissan groups plan to start new plants in that area.
TESLA has requested the officials to setup battery storage unit near Panniyur village for employment availability and easy access to chennai bangalore expressways. [17]
Status updates
[edit]- Aug 2018: Land acquisition was announced to start soon.[18]
- Dec 2018: ₹1,370 crores were already spent by the Government of India on pre-construction activities of this ₹17,930 crores expressway.[19]
- Feb 2019: More than 60% of land required for 262 km expressway was now acquired. Work was announced to begin in six months. The deadline of the Expressway was set to 2023.[20]
- Nov 2020: Acquisition of required 2,650 hectares of land was nearly done. Tenders were invited for 3 out of total 10 packages.[21]
- Feb 2021: The expressway was later shortened to be 4 laned instead earlier planned 8 lanes.[22] Dilip Buildcon Ltd declared lowest bidder for Package 1 (Hoskote - Malur) and Package 2 (Malur - Bangarapet).
- Sep 2021: Dilip Buildcon Ltd receives Letter of Agreement (LoA) from National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for construction of the expressway.
- Jan 2023: The expressway will be completed by March 2024.[23]
- Jan 2023: As of 26 January, around 15% work has been completed on the expressway.[24]
- Nov 2024: 65% of work has been completed & entire work in Karnataka state side is completed. Entire work expected to be completed by August 2025 [25][26]
