It is believed that, by 1700, the only professional team sport was [[cricket]], which itself was still in an early stage of development and relied on gambling interests for most of its revenue. It is possible that professionalism had begun in other sports which attracted gambling such as [[prizefighting]] and [[horse racing]]. |
