Forrest Frank (born April 8, 1995) is an American singer, songwriter, and producer, known as being the lead vocalist of the American pop music duo Surfaces, as well as his work as a Christian contemporary solo artist. He has released seven studio albums, including Warm of 2018, Effortless of 2020, Nostalgia Pack, California Cowboy, New Hymns, and A Merry Lofi Christmas of 2023, and 2024's Child of God,[1] the last of which charting No. 1 on Billboard's US Christian Charts and selling over 22,000 album units in the U.S. within its first week.[2][3] His song "No Longer Bound" (with Hulvey) reached #2 on the US Viral 50 chart on Spotify.[4]
History
[edit]Warm and Effortless (2018–2020)
[edit]Frank released his debut studio album, Warm, on July 1, 2018, through Houseboat records. It was followed by Effortless, released on July 24, 2020, on River House Records.
Nostalgia Pack, California Cowboy, New Hymns, and A Merry Lofi Christmas (2021–2023)
[edit]Forrest Frank was named Billboard's favorite Christian artist of 2023.[5] He released his third album, Nostalgia Pack, on May 26, 2023, and it was a collection of old songs, ideas, and demos from "a different time". It was followed by California Cowboy, released the following month on June 16, 2023. He had worked on the album since 2021. He stated about the album, "[From] start to finish, [California Cowboy] tells a complete tale." New Hymns was released on October 30, 2023, and included twelve songs that blend together pop music with traditional hymns. A Merry Lofi Christmas, a holiday themed album, was released on November 10, 2023.[6] It included classic Christmas songs, reimagined as lo-fi and hiphop.
His song "No Longer Bound: reached No. 44 on Billboard's Hot Christian Songs year-end chart of 2023.[7] He was considered by Billboard as the 50th best charting Christian Artist of 2023.[8]
Child of God (2024–present)
[edit]On April 12, 2024, Forrest Frank released the God Is Good EP, in association with Caleb Gordon.[9] It was succeeded on April 26, 2024, by the All the Time EP, released with nobigdyl.[10] On June 11, 2024, he announced his first solo tour, called the Child of God Tour. The tour visited 17 US cities, with openers Josiah Queen, Antoine Bradford, and nobigdyl.[11] On July 26, 2024, he released his album Child of God.[12] The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums and remained there for several months, making it the highest Christian album debut of the year. On October 25, 2024, he announced plans for a deluxe version of Child of God, including seven bonus tracks. The album was released on November 1.[13]
On November 15, he released a Christmas-themed single, "The Present".
On December 2, 2024, Frank announced that he would spend 2025 on the Child of God Part II tour.[14]
Relationship with Hulvey
[edit]Forrest Frank has made many songs with the artist Hulvey over the years. The first song they released was "No Longer Bound" on January 6, 2023. It reached number 2 on the US Viral 50 chart on Spotify[4] and was nominated in 2023 for Rap/Hip-hop Recorded Song of the Year at the 54th GMA Dove Awards. It was put on California Cowboy on June 16, 2023, and Child of God on July 16, 2024.
This song was shortly followed up by the song "Altar" on March 31, 2023. It peaked at number 25 on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart. It was released on Hulvey's album Cry on September 13, 2024. The next song they worked on was "Fly Away". "Fly Away" did not enter any charts. It was included on Frank's album New Hymns.
The last song they made up until this point is "All I Need", which was released and put on Child of God on July 16, 2024. The song reached number 46 on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart.
