Kelly's Trapped in the Closet in its entirety earned him a mention in both a Los Angeles Times blog[2],and in the New York Times[3] among others[4]. He also appeared on the Bravo improvised television series Significant Others.[5]
Reception
In 1999, he was voted Austin’s Best Stand-up Comic[6].
The Austin Chronicle described Brently as “one of the most prolific and inventive comics anywhere,” also providing a mediocre review for his solo show All Things Delicious: What the hell is inside the sizzle pot?.[7] At Amoeba, Brently hosts monthly charity auctions[8] benefiting victims of Hurricane Katrina and other green charities.
Brently's co-written musical Hooray For Gregory Peck’s Ass! which earned acclaim the late actor called the show the "solacement of my later years"[9][verification needed].

"Drawing on the Little Rascals as a primary influence,"[4] Brently has collaborated with Mitch Silpa of the Groundlings[10][unreliable source?] and other peers[11][failed verification], most often in live shows. Brently and the writer Pamela Ribon have developed several shows together for Comedy Central's working stage in Los Angeles.[12][failed verification] He, in turn, composed music for her show Anna Heche Monologues[13][failed verification]
In 2003, Channel 101 featured the series Brently & Mrs. Gould starring Brently and the 85 year old actress Jean Farber.[14][verification needed]
In 2008, Brently teamed up with Emmy winning writer Liz Feldman to form Feldman/Heilbron. Together they created Our Awesome War Show at the Comedy Central Stage in Los Angeles.[citation needed]
In 2008, Brently joined the Groundlings's Alexx Staggs in Boy Whores in Underpants also at the Comedy Central Stage.[citation needed]
