Reception

[edit]

In November 2024 Oliver withdrew the book after criticism for stereotyping Indigenous Australians. Sharon Davies, chief executive of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Commission, criticised a chapter called "To Steal a Child" because it implied that First Nations' families "are easily swayed by money and neglect the safety of their children".[2][3]
