Bhopal Junction (Template:Lang-hi; Template:Lang-ur) (Station Code: BPL) is a major railway junction of India and main railway station of Bhopal, the capital of the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Bhopal junction is the starting point for the fastest train of India,[citation needed] the Bhopal Shatabdi Express, as well as the fastest mail express train[citation needed] which is also India's first ISO certified train,[citation needed] the Shaan-e-Bhopal Express, while the newly announced Bhopal–Indore AC Double Decker Intercity Express will be the first AC Double Decker train[citation needed] and Bhopal–Indore AC Double Decker Non-Stop Express will be the first non-stop point to point train of Central India (Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh).[citation needed] This station also serves as a connecting point for various pilgrims from Nepal, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan and Myanmar to visit the Stupa of Sanchi, an important Buddhist stupa, which is about 40 km from Bhopal Junction railway station.

Construction

The main station of Bhopal is known as Bhopal Junction. It was constructed in year 1941 before India got independence. The second station of the city (Bhopal Habibganj) was constructed in year 1975 and its inauguration was done by Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India. Bhopal Junction Railway Station is located on the Main DelhiChennai and JhansiItarsi Railway Track which halts more than 200 daily trains, with a total of more than 380 trains within a week. Therefore the Trains for almost all the major as well as minor destinations in India are very easily available. To the north of the Bhopal Junction lies Bina Junction, to the south lies Itarsi Junction. There is one track which connect Bhopal to the west with Ujjain Junction, Ratlam Junction and Ahmedabad Junction. Also to some portion of Indore Junction and Dewas Junction.
