Bayway (formerly Bay Town Trolley) is the primary provider of mass transportation in Bay County, Florida. The system was previously known as the Bay Town Trolley, due to at one point where the majority of buses in the fleet were designed in the style of a tourist trolley. However, as the fleet was renewed, more traditional style buses were procured, eliminating the trolley-style fleet.
In 2009, the agency expanded from provided weekday-only to Monday-Saturday service all year round. Previously, buses only ran on Saturdays during the peak tourist season. Bay County’s Public Transportation System was created in 1983 to provide residents and visitors with transportation services in and around the Bay County Community. As the demand for public transportation increased, the original service area was expanded to encompass other areas of the county including the City of Callaway, City of Lynn Haven, City of Mexico Beach, City of Panama City, City of Panama City Beach, City of Parker, City of Springfield, and the unincorporated areas of Bay County.[1]
The system has both fixed routes and demand-response service.[2]
Name Change
[edit]In 2021, the Bay Town Trolley announced the intent to change the name and branding of the public transportation system. Members of the community were invited to provide suggested names via the service's website.[3] An online vote was held in February 2022, with the new name being announced in July 2022 for a switchover in August 2022 to Bayway.[4]
