Antonia "Toya" Wright (née Johnson previously Carter; born October 27, 1983) is an American reality television personality but better known as Toya Carter. She is best known as the ex-wife of Dwayne Michael "Lil Wayne" Carter. Since their break up she has been raising their daughter Reginae Carter. Wright has her own book called Priceless Inspirations,[1] has her own boutique called G.A.R.B.,[2] and is starring in her own reality show on BET called Toya: A Family Affair.[3]

Early life

Antonia "Toya" Johnson was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. She is the 3rd child of Anita Johnson-Andrews and Walter Andrews. All together they have 6 children. Her mother was a drug addict so as a child, she was moved from relative to relative. This made her feel like she had no sense of belonging, until she met her childhood sweetheart Lil Wayne.[4]

Relationship and Marriage with Lil Wayne

Toya and rapper Lil Wayne met when they were in high school in New Orleans, Louisiana. She became pregnant with their daughter at the age of 14. Lil Wayne was already signed to Cash Money Records as a burgeoning rapper. Lil Wayne ultimately chose to fully pursue his rap career with Cash Money Records in order to support his child. When she was 15 and Lil Wayne was 16 , Toya gave birth to their daughter, Reginae Djuan Carter, on November 29, 1998. [4] Years later, upon Lil Wayne achieving stardom, he married Toya on [14th February ] 2004. In January 2006, however, after almost two years of marriage, the couple divorced, citing her inability to cope with his lifestyle, most specifically his career keeping him away from home for long periods of time. Despite being divorced, the two have remained good friends and continue to raise their daughter together.[5]
