AnnaSophia Robb (born December 8, 1993) is an American film and television actress, as well as an occasional singer. She became known in 2005, after starring roles in the family film Because of Winn-Dixie and the box office success Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Robb subsequently co-starred in 2007's Bridge to Terabithia and The Reaping. She starred in the 2008 film Sleepwalking, and will have her first on-screen romantic relationship with co-star Cayden Boyd in Have Dreams, Will Travel.

Biography

Personal life

Robb was born in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of Janet and Dave Robb. She was named after her maternal great-grandmother, Anna Sophie, and her paternal grandmother, Anna Marie.[1] She has a dog, Bella, and enjoys singing, snowboarding, rafting, dancing, and reading, especially fantasy and historical fiction.[2] Robb competed in dance and gymnastics for four and a half years, but quit when she began acting;[1] she was once home-schooled and now attends a private school in Colorado,[1][3] having stated that she is quite serious about it[2] and would like to attend college.[1] Robb is a Christian[4][5] and has said that she is really close with her family.[2]

Career

After starring in a commercial for McDonald's, Robb made her acting debut in 2004 in a bit role in the episode "Number One Fan" of the television series Drake & Josh. Her first major role was as the title character in the television special Samantha: An American Girl Holiday in which she had to wear a dark brown wig for the part. Robb appeared in two successful 2005 films. She starred in Because of Winn-Dixie playing Opal, the lead character. The film was based on the award-winning children's novel of the same name and performed well at the domestic box office, grossing $32 million. The second was Tim Burton's remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in which she played Violet Beauregarde. This film was a major box office success, raising Robb's popularity among pre-teen audiences. The same year, Robb was the face of Trad Clothing, helping to design and model a fashion line for girls. In 2006, she had a guest role on the cartoon show Danny Phantom, as the voice of Danielle "Dani" Fenton.

Robb played Leslie Burke in Bridge to Terabithia, a fantasy drama which opened on February 16, 2007 and also starred Josh Hutcherson. She recorded a song, "Keep Your Mind Wide Open", for the film's soundtrack,[1] and appeared in a music video for the song that aired on the Disney Channel.[6] The song appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 at #90 during the week of March 1, 2007, being her first song to chart.[7] Robb was a fan of the book that the film is based on before being cast in the role, specifying that the book "touched [her] in a way [she] hadn’t been touched by a book before".[2] Some of Robb's most recent films include The Reaping, a thriller that opened April 5, 2007; Doubting Thomas, an adventure film; Jumper, an action film in which she plays the younger version of Rachel Bilson's character; and the 1960s-set drama Have Dreams, Will Travel (formerly A West Texas Children's Story), playing one of two children who are faced with neglectful parents. In the generally poorly reviewed film Sleepwalking, Robb received mostly positive reviews, with Richard Schickel from Time Magazine stating, "There is a wonderful range to Robb's work; This is extraordinarily mature acting from someone this young and she wins our sympathy without once begging for it."[8]

On the set of The Reaping, she wrote a short horror story called "Backseat Swamp".

As of April 2008, Robb is attached to Race to Witch Mountain.[9]

Awards

On March 30th, 2008, AnnaSophia won a Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress for her role in Bridge To Terabithia, as did her co-stars Josh Hutcherson (for Leading Young Actor) and Bailee Madison (for Young Actress Age Ten Or Younger). Bridge To Terabithia itself won two awards, Young Ensemble Cast and Best Fantasy or Musical.[10] This Young Artist Award is AnnaSophia's first award.
