Andy Allo (born January 13, 1989), is a Cameroonian-born singer-songwriter, guitarist, pianist, model, and actress.[1]

She is known for her appearances in American television shows, including the comedy-drama series The Game,[2] the talk show Attack of the Show!,[3] and her musical performance on the talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live!.[4] Allo has also produced two record albums.[5]

Early life and education

Born in Bamenda, Northwest Region, Cameroon, Allo developed an interest in music at an early age; her mother taught her to play the piano at age seven. She is the youngest of five siblings.[6]

Andy Allo holds dual citizenship in the United States and Cameroon and moved with her sister Suzanne to Sacramento California in 2000 at the age of 11 following her U.S. Citizen mother and 3 other siblings.

Allo’s father, Andrew A Allo, an African ecologist after whom she was named, did not move to the U.S. from Cameroon at that time. Andy’s parents met and married in 1969 while both were students at Humboldt State University in Arcata California. Andy’s father recently resided in North Highlands California and Edmond Oklahoma.

Allo's mother, Sue Adams Allo, is a school teacher and native Californian from Lodi. Andy’s maternal grandfather, the late Christopher Norman Adams (1913-1995) was a WW II veteran, teacher, rancher, and fourth-generation Californian whose family settled in the Lodi area during the Gold Rush.

Allo’s U.S. public education began in the 7th grade at Arden Middle School in Sacramento and she graduated in 2006 from El Camino High School in Sacramento. Allo held several part time jobs during high school that included working at a bowling alley concession stand, Wienerschnitzel, Stylez clothing store, Sports Chalet, Farmer’s Insurance, a Doctor’s office for an uncle who is a Cardiologist, and at Rally’s.

Following high school Allo attended American River Community College in northern Sacramento County.

During her community college years Allo formed her own band, Allo and the Traffic Jam, and they would sometimes perform on the corner of 22nd and J streets in Sacramento for tips during Second Saturday.

Allo’s first solo gig was an open mic night in 2008 at the Fox & Goose Public House in downtown Sacramento.

Career

In 2009, she released her first independent album, UnFresh, a collection of 12 original songs.[7][8][9] The album's first single, "Dreamland", features the rapper Blu.[10]

Allo's reputation as a musician led her to a role as a singer and guitarist in American musician Prince's band, The New Power Generation, in 2011.[11][12] She began writing with Prince while on tour, collaborating on three songs, "Superconductor", "The Calm" and "Long Gone", which appear on Allo's album, Superconductor.[13][14]

Superconductor was released on November 20, 2012,[15] and the album debuted at number one on Amazon.com's Soul and R&B charts in France, the United Kingdom and the U.S.[16][17] The album also features musicians Maceo Parker and Trombone Shorty.[18]
