Alafaya is a census-designated place and unincorporated area in Orange County, Florida, United States. The population was 92,452 at the 2020 US census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is most known for being near the University of Central Florida, Avalon Park and Waterford Lakes.

Geography

Alafaya is located in eastern Orange County, Florida, in a broad zone south of State Road 50. The approximate center of Alafaya lies 9 miles (14 km) east of downtown Orlando.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 38.1 square miles (98.6 km2), of which 38.0 square miles (98.3 km2) is land and 0.077 square miles (0.2 km2), or 0.25%, is water.[4]

The median gross rent from 2017-2021 was $1,608. 97.7% of households had a computer and 95.5% had a broadband Internet subscription.[8]

As of the 2020 United States census, there were 92,452 people, 30,667 households, and 21,781 families residing in the CDP.[9]

According to the 2020 United States census,[8] Alafaya had a population of 92,452 with 30,746 households. There 2.99 persons per household and a population density of 3,017.4 people per square mile.

By age, the population in 2020 was split with 5.0% under 5 years old, 21.1% under 18 years old, and 10.6% 65 years and over. 50.8% of the population were female persons.[8]

In 2020, there was an owner-occupied housing rate of 63.6% in the CDP. The median value of owner-occupied housing units was $307,900. The median monthly owner costs with a mortgage was $1,843 and without a mortgage was $565.[8]

In 2020, 92.7% of the population 25 years and older were high school graduates or higher and 45.0% of that same population had a Bachelor's degree or higher.[8]

As of the 2010 United States census, there were 78,113 people, 25,431 households, and 18,709 families residing in the CDP.[10]

Alafaya has the 10th-highest number of Palestinian-Americans in the United States.[11]
