Airtel Super Singer is a reality-based Indian singing competition in Tamil language that is being aired on STAR Vijay. The program seeks to discover the best singing talent in Tamil Nadu through a series of statewide auditions. The show is sponsored by the mobile service provider, Airtel. The show debuted in 2006 and has completed its three seasons, presently in fourth season. The winner of event gets a chance to sing a Tamil movie song.[1][2][3]

The show usually airs on All Weekday nights in India and is telecast worldwide through partner broadcasting networks.

Season synopsis

Season 1

The first season of Airtel Super Singer debuted in 2006. Nikhil Mathew was announced the winner given by singer S.P. Balasubramaniam and was selected to sing a song, Enadhuyire in the Tamil film, Bheema for the music director, Harris Jayaraj.

Season 2

Auditions for the 2008 show started on June 27, 2008. Judges had to shortlist from about 10000 canditates from auditions in three cities, Chennai, Tiruchirapalli and Coimbatore. Sujatha, Unnikrishnan and Srinivas were the judges of the show. Ajeesh won the competition and was chosen by Yuvan Shankar Raja to sing the song Idhu Varai for the soundtrack of the Tamil film, Goa.[4][5]

Season 3

The auditions were successfully held in various parts of Tamil Nadu. Saicharan won the competition (on votes by audience ) and his prize was a house worth 40 Lakhs given by Temple green Arun Excello, in Oragadam. Santhosh was 1st Runner Up and won a car . Sathya Prakash (adjudged to be the best performance in finals by the judges won 2nd Runner Up and his prize was 3 lakhs (IND). Pooja Vaidyanath was 3rd Runner Up and her prize was 1 lakh (IND) Srinivasan Raghunathan won judges special prize of 1 lakh as judges thought that he was strongest and deserving contest in wildcard who gave tough competition to one and all. His wildcard performance of 'Aromale' had sensational reach towards audience[6] Now, he sang for A. R. Rahman's musical Godfather Kannada in the name of Nivas A. R. Rahman changed that name.

Season 4

The auditions were held in various parts of Tamil Nadu. The Season 4 Grand Finale held on 1 February 2014 was broadcast live on Star Vijay and YouTube.
