Alfred John "AJ" Reynolds is a Canadian tech owner, developer, and electrical infrastructure expert, best known for his former internationally syndicated radio show Canada's Top 20 Countdown. After concluding his radio career in 2019, Reynolds transitioned into the tech industry, founding the initiative EcoDrive Nova Scotia, which focuses on building electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across rural Nova Scotia. He is also the founder of Nova Scotia Obituaries, an online platform dedicated to preserving the legacies of Nova Scotians by allowing families to share unlimited stories, photos, and videos.
Early life
[edit]Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Reynolds was raised in Sydney River, Nova Scotia in a family known locally for being radio personalities. Reynolds was the first son in a family of four, consisting of a younger brother, mother, and father. From an early age, he developed a keen interest in radio, frequently visiting his uncle's morning show at local station CJCB.
Radio career
[edit]Reynolds began his radio career in Moncton, New Brunswick, as an afternoon announcer at CKCW-FM. He shifted time slots and filled in for news on both K94.5 and its sister station CFQM-FM. After two years, Reynolds left his position but quickly returned to work on air and in production at CJMO-FM and CJXL-FM, refining his on-air persona and production skills. In less than a year, he became the overnight host at CFNY-FM, frequently filling in for Martin Streek. From 2005 to February 2009, Reynolds left radio to work in feature film, returning as an announcer at CKHZ-FM in 2009, where he earned top ratings in his time slot. Afterward, he briefly joined CKHY-FM to launch Atlantic Canada's first New Rock Station.
His most significant role was as the host of Canada's Top 20 Countdown, a show syndicated across Canada, aboard Air Canada flights, and through the Canadian Forces Network. The show aired in 20 countries until it concluded in 2019, allowing Reynolds to focus on new ventures in technology and infrastructure.
Transition to Tech and Infrastructure
[edit]After wrapping up Canada's Top 20 Countdown in 2019, Reynolds shifted his focus toward sustainable technology and infrastructure. He founded EcoDrive Nova Scotia, a project aimed at establishing electric vehicle charging infrastructure in rural Nova Scotia, supporting the province's transition toward renewable energy and electric vehicles. His work in the sector has garnered the attention of both provincial and federal governments.
In addition, Reynolds founded Nova Scotia Obituaries, an online platform where families can honor the lives of their loved ones by sharing unlimited stories, photos, and videos. This project underscores his commitment to preserving the history and culture of Nova Scotians through digital means.
Movies and television

He worked for over five years in feature films, primarily behind the scenes as an executive producer's assistant and in various other roles. Reynolds previously worked on a television venture based on Canada's Top 20 Countdown.

[edit]In addition to his career in tech and infrastructure, Reynolds is an entrepreneur. He co-founded Paradise Radio, a brand of English-language radio stations in tourist destinations worldwide, and owns Positive Number Productions, a syndicated program producer and distributor.
