The 1949 Afghan coup plot was planned by Ismael Balkhi to assassinate Prime Minister Shah Mahmud Khan and overthrow King Mohammad Zahir Shah. However, the plan was leaked, and all coup plotters were arrested.^[1]^[2]^[3]^[4]
