July 14, 2-7pm: Annual NYC Wiki-Picnic @ Roosevelt Island

You are invited to join us at the "picnic anyone can edit" in the lovely Southpoint Park on Roosevelt Island, as part of the Great American Wiknic celebrations being held across the USA. Remember it's a wiki-picnic, which means potluck.

This year the Wiknic will double as a "Strategy Salon" (more information at Wiknic page), using open space technology to address major questions facing our social movement.

2–7pm - come by any time!
Our picnicking area is at Southpoint Park, south of the tram and subway, and also just south of the Cornell Tech campus.
Look for us by the Wikipedia / Wikimedia NYC banner!

Celebrate our 13th year of wiki-picnics! We hope to see you there! Newcomers are very welcome! Bring your friends and colleagues! --Wikimedia New York City Team 21:37, 6 July 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for linking El C

I missed that in my links. Buffs (talk) 18:08, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sigh

Every time I see you display your humorous side I'm reminded of another RfA post you made years ago, and then I've got that 7 song earworm again. But then maybe I'm just Floqed up in the head. — Ched :  ? 01:59, 25 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Case names

At least "footnoted quotes" and "gamergate" mean something, even if editors pointed towards them are confused as to the relevance. It's not all that long ago people were saying things like "this is a clear Digwuren situation" or "I think Plaxico applies" and expecting other people to know what they were talking about. ‑ Iridescent 15:41, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

(Nods.) "Digwuren" I remember; "Plaxico" is not ringing a bell. Regards, Newyorkbrad (talk) 16:02, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
WP:Plaxico was the original WP:BOOMERANG, named after some guy who'd accidentally shot himself (and that actually was the title of the page, it wasn't just a lame attempt at a comical redirect). It was moved, deleted, restored and redeleted so often that the history is hard to piece together, but the text of it survives here. ‑ Iridescent 16:09, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I remember the incident (as a New York sports fan), but must have missed its Wikipedia aftermath. Newyorkbrad (talk) 16:13, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose being a Pittsburgh fan made it more noticeable and memorable. If I recall correctly, User:Baseball Bugs was rather fond of using that redirect. — Ched :  ? 06:00, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Approach and be recognized!

As you value your life or your reason keep away from the Moor.

I, EEng, hereby award Newyorkbrad the EEng Platinum Medallion (with Oak Leaves) for Distinguished Achievement in Humor in recognition of this beautiful quip. EEng 02:21, 19 August 2019 (UTC) P.S. Maybe MJL can enter witness protection?[reply]

I was gonna make a hounding joke but I forgot, dammit. EEng 03:37, 19 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
"The word 'moor' only was printed in ink." Newyorkbrad (talk) 16:32, 19 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Interestingly, Moriarty felt differently than Mortimer about Holmes's skull: "You have less frontal development than I should have expected." (FINA). In any event, "Yeah, yeah, I know what it is, but I'm using it, eh?" Newyorkbrad (talk) 04:27, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see the two comments as incompatible. EEng 05:37, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

For this. (The "thanks" button seemed insufficient for the work you put into this.) You put into words what I am sure a lot of us are thinking. Once I figure out how and where to express support for these principles and findings of fact I will do so. Good work. Cheers, 28bytes (talk) 23:34, 19 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
